I RECENTLY had the privilege of photographing a beautiful family and maternity session at Yates Mill Historic Park in Raleigh, North Carolina. Nestled just minutes from downtown, this scenic park offered the perfect backdrop for a warm, relaxed, and natural family session. From the historic mill’s rustic charm to the golden hues of the changing leaves, the park's enchanting atmosphere created a memorable setting for this growing family.
Yates Mill Historic Park is a dream for any photographer. The historic water-powered gristmill, with its weathered wood and stone foundations, offers a nostalgic touch, while the surrounding landscape—trees draped in fall colors, a serene pond reflecting the sky, and wide-open fields—is filled with natural beauty. For this session, we explored a few areas around the park, making the most of the fall foliage, soft afternoon light, and scenic views.
This session was extra special because it was not only a family shoot but also a maternity session. As LAUREN AND ZACK prepares to welcome a new member into their family, we wanted to capture the anticipation and excitement surrounding this new chapter. In the quieter moments of the session, I focused on LAUREN, capturing her in some serene, reflective poses against the backdrop of Yates Mill's picturesque pond.
We did a few classic maternity poses, with LAUREN holding her belly and looking out at the water. The soon-to-be big brother joined in for some playful, candid shots, and his pure joy and curiosity about his soon-to-arrive sibling were heartwarming.
